The Program


The four-year Bachelors of Computer Information Systems (BCIS) program is the first of its kind in the country. as our four-year BCIS program is comparable to similar programs elsewhere in the world, our students, upon graduation from the BCIS program, will have an added advantage of being able to directly pursue Masters level program in the US, UK or elsewhere in the world.
The BCIS program aims to prepare students to be able to blend the power of computers along with the concepts, tools and techniques of management, to solve problems of modern-day complex organizations. This program attempts to develop the technical skills and organizational insights in students to analyze, design, implement and manage information systems.

Objectives


The BCIS program at the Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) of Pokhara University is designed to impart both theoretical foundation and practical knowledge in Computer Information Systems. Specifically, the program aims, among others to:

Prepare students to take up entry level managerial position to start a professional career in computer information systems;

Inculcate a positive attitude, abilities and practical skills so essential for competent and responsible computer professional; and

Develop necessary foundation for Masters level Studies in Computer Information Systems, Management Information Systems or Computer Science.

Potential Intakes


Students who have completed 10+2 or any equivalent examinations in a higher second division fro any college and university recognized by Pokhara University.

Career Opportunities & Potential Employers


Demand for BCIS degree holders is enormous worldwide. Organizations - public or private, small or large, domestic or international, for - profit or not - for - profit - will absorb ever - growing number of skilled and competent computer professionals for years to come. Students, upon graduation from the BCIS program, are expected to work as programmers, system analysts, information analysts, database managers, network administrators, trainer cum instructors and likes. In addition, the BCIS degree holders will have very strong foundations to pursue Masters level studies in Computer science or Business Administration.

a large number of organizations employ competent and skilled professionals to analyze, design, implement and manage their information system to competitively run in today's competitive environment. Public or private, small or large, domestic or international, profit - making or not -for - profit organizations are expected to employ the outputs of the BCIS program.

The Curriculum


A student needs to successfully complete a hundred and twenty credit hours of course work to graduate from BCIS program. Recognizing the need for both breadth and depth in a quality academic program, the curriculum for the BCIS program comprises of six distinct components:

Six courses (18 credit hours) in analytical tool area and three courses (9 credit hours) in support area to provide a student with a strong foundation in allied areas of computer studies;

Nine courses (27 credit hours) in management to help students understand and appreciate the diversity of and the interrelationships between various functional areas of management;
